What is Methadone ?
Methadone
is a synthetic manufactured medicine with characteristics similar
to morphine. When used in heroin dependence treatment it is taken
orally mixed with juice. It is also prescribed to patients with
pain conditions. Methadone relieves people suffering from withdrawal
symptoms and reduce the craving for heroin. A sufficient dose of
Methadone should not make the patient affected.
Extensive research suggest that well-managed Methadone treatment
should not cause serious side effects.
Methadone is highly dangerous.
Methadone bottles should be kept in strict safety preventing unauthorized
from drinking it by mistake. If this
should happen, call an ambulance immediately (911, 112 in Sweden).
Anyone not in treatment needs immediate attention in the emergency
ward.
